Pay no attention to bloggers, activists, or any other 'types' who disagree with the King.
I would imagine that, if I were living the champagne wishes and caviar dreams of an elite Washington politico, I would despise anyone who dared to speak out against me. The chatter of those who were obviously too stupid to understand my boundless genius would become tiresome and the constant nattering of my inferiors might interfere with my lavish, star-studded, parties. Sure, I'd be aware of the fact that I was better than the people over whom I ruled, but it would frustrate me that they were unwilling to admit it.
It would just be so irritating to know that - somewhere in America - someone was publishing something that dared to impugn my brilliance.
So, I'd do what President Obama did this morning. I'd make sure everyone knew that bloggers and activists who exercise their first amendment rights should simply be ignored.
As Barack Obama said in his post-shutdown comments:
"And now that the government is reopened, and this threat to our economy is removed, all of us need to stop focusing on the lobbyists, and the bloggers, and the talking heads on radio, and the professional activists who profit from conflict, and focus on what the majority of Americans sent us here to do.”
What's that you say? Barack Obama is only President because he was an activist and community organizer - the very type of person he now wants you to ignore? You think his entire 2008 candidacy hinged on the power of the internet's grass roots bloggers? Please. That was before.
In the good old days, bloggers and activists were outsiders. They were steering like-minded individuals in an effort to bring down "the system." Now that Obama is President, he is the system. So, you see, bloggers are no longer needed. “Professional activists” - like the people at Organizing for Action - should just call it a day and go home. They're old hat.
These days, the President wants you to know that it's not "cool" to disagree with those in power. Despite what Hillary Clinton might have said in 2006, "dissent" is no longer the "highest form of patriotism." Today, patriotism is defined by shutting your mouth, plugging your ears, and doing whatever Barack Obama wants.
So, you've been warned. This post was written by a blogger. This site is owned by a "radio talking head." The President - in his infinite wisdom - thinks you need to ignore them.
****
What's the matter Mr. President, do I - and other bloggers - make you a little uncomfortable? I guess that makes us even then because you make me A LOT uncomfortable! I believed in you and what you said, but you have failed our country and its people horribly! What happened Mr. President that you now tell the public to ignore those of us who exercise our First Amendment right to freedom of expression?
